Ramsar Wetlands

Europe Lake, Mink River, Mud Lake and the Ridges Sanctuary are some of the notable wetlands that have been designated as a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention, which recognizes exceptional wetlands around the world. These northern Door wetlands host the greatest number of the endangered Hine’s Emerald Dragonflies in the US. These wetlands also serve as an important avian habitat for an estimated 150 species of birds.
